Hørsholm municipality has a building most people know of. Trommen is a culture house in Hørsholm. About this project

The operations department in Hørsholm municipality aims to cut a minimum of 2% of their total CO2 emissions per year. This is a specific and tangible goal. The lighting project has helped to raise this percentage. The building was built in 1988 and the lighting was in its time implemented especially with respect for the unique design of the building. However, after 32 years, the lamps had served their duty. The lamps were energy inefficient and getting spare parts became a problem. The challenge with the spare parts meant that the municipality had to look at other solutions. What the operations department showed at an early stage was that the new lamps were not an off-the-shelf product. Thus, standard LED downlights could not be used. Several lighting suppliers came in to meet with the municipality. Many good bids came in to solve the challenge, for instance, how to retain the iconic red cross in the center of the lamp. Lumega came to Hørsholm municipality on another errand until this project was mentioned. Lumega took up the challenge. The very next day, our product engineer came on the scene. He redesigned our NS11 so we could get to the finish line faster without developing a brand-new lamp.

The process then took place with correspondence between Hørsholm municipality and Lumega in the hope of eventually reaching the finish line. After the second mockup, the solution was there. Lumega had hit exactly what Hørsholm municipality was looking for. Overall, this project consists of almost 1,000 specially designed LED downlights with DALI control.

Lighting

Lumega’s product-engineer redesigned our NS11 downlight. In addition, we have guaranteed an extra good light quality. Not only have the library received significantly more light, they have also been given the opportunity to introduce daylight sensors and thus save even more energy. The energy savings have not yet been calculated after implementation, but Lumega expects a payback period of less than 5 years, including installation costs. With the long life of the Samsung LEDs and oversized cooling surface on the lamp, the municipality can look forward to a virtually maintenance-free lighting system. More light, better comfort with control and a significantly better light quality. The interior character of the building has changed completely and even a politician from Hørsholm municipality has shown his enthusiasm for the new beautiful lighting installation.
